Lionel Messi

Lionel Andrés Messi, also known as Leo Messi, is an Argentine professional footballer who plays as a forward for Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain and captains the Argentina national team. Often considered the best player in the world and widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, Messi has won a record seven Ballon d'Or awards, a record six European Golden Shoes, and in 2020 was named to the Ballon d'Or Dream Team. Until leaving the club in 2021, he had spent his entire professional career with Barcelona, where he won a club-record 35 trophies, including ten La Liga titles, seven Copa del Rey titles, and four UEFA Champions Leagues. 

A prolific goalscorer and creative playmaker, Messi holds the records for most goals in La Liga (474), a La Liga and European league season (50), most hat-tricks in La Liga (36) and the UEFA Champions League (8), and most assists in La Liga (192), a La Liga season (21) and the Copa América (17). He also holds the record for most international goals by a South American male (81). Messi has scored over 750 senior career goals for club and country and has the most goals by a player for a single club.

Club Career-from Barcelona to PSG

Messi helped Paris Saint-Germain clinch a record-tying 10th French league title by opening the scoring in a 1-1 draw with Lens. This was Messi's first trophy since leaving FC Barcelona.

He spent his entire career with Barcelona before joining PSG, winning 10 La Liga titles as well as four Champions Leagues. His best performances for PSG this season happened when he played the role of a free-roaming attacking midfielder. Messi has four goals and 13 assists in the French league. That’s quite a contrast to his last season at Barcelona, where he notched 30 goals and nine assists in La Liga.

Argentina national team

Messi decided to play for his homeland, Argentina, in 2005. He led the team to the final game of the 2005 U-20 World Cup against Nigeria, which ended in a 2–1 Argentine victory. Messi scored two penalties as his national team won the U-20 World Cup. In addition to the gold medal, Messi was awarded the Golden Shoe for most goals scored (6), and Golden Ball for best player. Messi was made captain of the national team in 2011. Messi showed up his better version at the 2014 World Cup guiding Argentina to the finals. But Argentina lost against Germany despite having extra time.
